Famous for its Baroque architecture, there’s no better spot to admire its beauty than the Piazza Castello. This is where you’ll find the Palazzo Reale with its exquisite royal armoury, ornate ceilings and stuccowork. Don’t miss the nearby Palazzo Madama either, current home to the Turin City Museum of Ancient Art – and former residence of Napoleon, no less.

For some post-sightseeing indulgence, you’re never too far from an artisanal chocolate shop thanks to the city’s claim to fame as the birthplace of the chocolate bar. Then when evening comes, while away the hours in the San Salvario district by the River Po, enjoying good food and plenty of local Barolo in its buzzy bars and restaurants.
